Year Completed:  1886

History:

Saint Mary’s dates back to 1854 when a small wooden church was built on Hill Street (now University Avenue) in downtown Delaware; just a few blocks from the current structure. As the congregation grew, the decision to build a larger church was made. In 1886, the Gothic Revival church that serves Saint Mary’s today was completed. Lead architect for the project was Adolphus Druiding, and the church was built with nearby stone and bricks.

Saint Mary Catholic Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
